UTN not required for filing your I-tax returns this year

Jul 04, 2009
Further to our news reported on June 27, 2009 [Income Tax Return filers may be given UTN reprieve], the government has deferred its plan of implementing the Unique Transaction Number (UTN) requirement for all assessees filing their i-tax returns this year (FY 2008-09). This comes as a major relief to all individuals who had either filed their i-tax returns or had put the decision to file, on hold.

Individuals could now breathe easy and go ahead with filing their i-tax returns. Their fears of not getting credit for taxes has been set aside by this clarification from the Central Board for Direct taxes (CBDT)
